Outdoor Shakespeare returns to South Cheshire

A GROUP of travelling performers are taking to the stage in Buerton as part of a whistle-stop tour of the North West.

Dean Taylor Productions, a small professional theatre group based in Preston specialising in outdoor productions of Shakespeare, starts its run in the village this weekend.

They will be at Buerton House, on Woore Road near Audlem, on June 18 and 19.

The venue was first used by the company in 2005 and they have been returning every year since to perform their special brand of Shakespeare for South Cheshire audiences.

This time, they will perform one of the Bard’s classics, Twelfth Night as part of the company’s ninth outdoor season.

Famous and familiar characters lace this heady, comedic cocktail of ribaldry and farce, including the libidinous sot Sir Toby Belch, the pompous Malvolio and the inept Sir Andrew Aguecheek.

A cast of 11 professional actors and musicians in period costume from the Royal Shakespeare Company is primed and ready.

Producer and director Dean Taylor said: “We began nine years ago at Hoghton Tower in Preston with Twelfth Night and the ‘nine- year itch’ is upon us.

“Bring a picnic, a bottle or two, friends and family whatever their ages and experience theatre at its most fun and natural.”

Performances at Buerton House start at 2pm and 7pm on Saturday, June 18 and at 2pm on Sunday, June 19.

The production will also be at Gawsworth Hall near Macclesfield on July 20 and 21.

There is good wheelchair access and ample free parking at both venues. Refreshments will be available as well as toilet facilities.

Tickets are £22 adults or £18 each for groups of six or more, concessions £16, children £12 and family tickets for two adults and two children £50.

Special rates for schools and colleges are also available.
