Music icon Morrissey has confirmed he will be playing at the Victoria Hall, Hanley, this summer.
The 51-year-old has added the Potteries date to a UK theatre tour due to phenomenal demand.
Morrissey rose to prominence in the 1980s band with his alternative rock band The Smiths as lyricist and vocalist, and their first charting single in 1983 This Charming Man arguably remained their most popular release.
The band continued to be highly successful, particularly in the UK but, despite their success, personal differences within the band – including the increasingly strained relationship between Morrissey and Johnny Marr – saw them on the verge of splitting.
In July 1987 Marr left the group and auditions to find a replacement proved fruitless, and by the time the group's fourth album, Strangeways, Here We Come, was released in September the band had split up.
Morrissey embarked on a solo career, getting into the Top 10 on 10 occasions, with tracks such as Suedehead, You Have Killed Me and Irish Blood, English Heart.
Taking his career as a whole, he is widely regarded as an important innovator in indie music, and has been described by music magazine NME as ‘one of the most influential artists ever’.
Morrissey is at Victoria Hall on Tuesday, July 5. Tickets are on sale now, priced £33.50. To book, phone 0844 871 7649 or visit www.ambassadortickets.com/victoria-hall.
