WELSH rock band Funeral For A Friend will headline this year’s Crewe Live music festival.
They play the Sunday night of the event, which takes place across the town during the bank holiday weekend of May 27-30.
Organiser Volume has also revealed two of the UK’s hottest new bands – Kid British and Twisted Wheel – headline the festival on the Friday and Saturday.
The four-day event will be the town’s biggest ever music festival, with more than 100 bands and artists. Confirmed stages so far include Dante’s, Square One, The Duke of Bridgewater, The Imp, The Waldron, Oddies, The Box and The Bank.
Funeral For A Friend come to Crewe as they release their highly acclaimed new album, Welcome Home Armageddon!.
The band emerged a decade ago to steal the melodic hardcore crown, winning over hordes of fans and scoring chart successes in the process.
In the past 10 years Funeral For A Friend have earned a bagful of awards, played sell-out tours, evolving to become a creative force on the British rock scene.
Volume spokesman Toby Robinson said: “We are especially proud of the headliners this year as we feel we have managed to push the festival up a level.
“Hopefully the three headliners cater for most tastes. Kid British are a real party band and will be ideal to kick things into life on the Friday, while Twisted Wheel, whose fans include the Gallagher brothers, are one of the best new indie bands in the UK today.
“As proud as we are of the headliners, the festival is very much about emerging local talent.
“We’ll be featuring the cream of the best original artists and bands from across the region. Hopefully the event will provide a platform for them to reach new audiences.
“For some reason Crewe seems to have a real lack of events that bring the community together, while the likes of Nantwich and Chester stage a string of festivals and major events every year.
“Hopefully Crewe Live 11 will give the town someone to be positive about.”
Organisers are busy working on the schedule for the four days and the new website www.crewelive.co.uk will be going live soon.
