Volume Festival in Crewe will return in 2011

THE organisers of Crewe’s biggest music festival have revealed the Crewe Live event will go ahead later this year.

The three-day festival will take place in the town’s bars and clubs on the bank holiday weekend May 28-30.

In past years the event has drawn thousands of music fans, along with scores of upcoming acts from across the UK and further afield.

The organisers now say it is crucial the festival returns for good.

Toby Robinson, a spokesman for organiser Volume, said: “With the future of the town’s carnival uncertain at the moment, we feel it’s important that the area has a big community event to offer.

“When we first started the festival in 2008 it was because Crewe seemed to have an empty calendar compared to neighbours such as Nantwich. Unfortunately that has not changed.

“The Box, Square One and several other venues have continued to support the local live music scene and it feels like a good time to bring everything together in one big showcase.

“There is an excellent crop of young talent coming through and a showcase such as this will enable more established acts to reach a wider audience.

“While the event took a sabbatical last year, from now on we are determined to make the event a permanent fixture.”

Last year’s festival featured more than 70 bands in eight venues and attracted sponsorship from numerous local businesses.

Toby added: “We already have some venues on board and are busy putting together the schedule.

“We’re willing to talk to anyone who wants to get involved with Crewe Live 2011 to ensure everyone gets a say.”
