Music Spotlight: Thrash metal outfit Skeletal Damage headline The Box

BEING in a band is all about fulfilling your dreams.

Doing things you’ve always wanted to, doing things you thought you’d never do.

Crewe-based metal outfit Skeletal Damage get to tick one off the list when they make a surprise appearance at Download in June.

It’s a real coup for the four-piece, joining the likes of System Of A Down, Linkin Park and Alice Cooper at the spiritual home of rock – Donington Park.

“It’s a lifelong dream for all of us and a dream for any metal band,” explained Tom Barnes (guitar) who is joined by Martyn Flannagan (vocals), Paul Kozyra (bass) and Carl Worthington (drums).

“It’s not just Download, it’s Donington which was home to the Monsters of Rock Festival and has been staging this kind of event for over 30 years.

“All of our idols have played there too, Sabbath, Metallica and Megadeth.

“I don’t know what stage we’re on or what day and I don’t care as long as we’re there.”

To make sure they’re on top form, Skeletal have arranged a string of dates including their debut headline slot at The Box this Friday.

Damage will be joined by female-fronted Northwich rockers Cupid’s Gun, Semiphore and Below The Depths.

“We spent a year writing material which is a long time but its paid dividends,” continued Tom.

“We’ve been asked back to Manchester Academy to play one of their bigger venues and we’re talking to a lot of people.

“It was the first time we had played to a full-on metal crowd and the feedback was great.

“We’ve also been in the studio and hopefully the demo will be a big step to where we want to be.

“We won’t stop until we’re signed and the mission is to get a record deal before the end of the year.

“The Box is our home venue and hopefully there’ll be plenty of people down for this one.

“We’re also looking forward to coming back after Download and bring a whole load of new fans to Crewe.”
