Young Rebel Set make their return to The Box in Crewe on Friday.
The mysterious troubadours that form Young Rebel Set preach full-blooded tales of tough love, hard luck and the triumph of romance against the odds.
After releasing two very limited edition singles last year and following the release of their Won’t Get Up Again EP through the band’s own label, Young Rebel Set are putting the finishing touches to their debut album.
Young Rebel Set name The Pogues and Springsteen as two of their main influences, and traces of both are evident in every aspect of their sound.
The band have been all across Europe touring their brand of storytelling folk tinged pop
Guitarist Andy Parmley admitted that as Young Rebel Set are a big group – he is joined in the band by Matty Chipchase, Chris Parmley, Mark Evans, Paddy Jordan, Luke Evans and Dave Coombe – things can get tight for space in the tour van.
He said: “For us we just hop in the van. We all fit in one van. It’s very tight and it absolutely stinks, but it does the job and gets us there – just about – so that’s the main thing.”
Breaking out of their own native scene where they’ve built a huge following, Young Rebel Set’s songs are the sound of disenchanted, literate, working class young men in Northern Britain in 2011, looking for a means of escape through the music they love.
All seven members of the band have been friends since school and include two sets of brothers, further cementing the gang spirit.
Cheshire’s finest folk-indie band Proud Proud People provide support along with The Escape and Little Nine.
Doors open at 8pm and tickets are £6, available in advance by visiting www.theboxcrewe.co.uk.
