Students at MMU Crewe to put on Shakespeare classic with modern twist

STUDENT theatre group Genesis Theatre are to perform only their second production, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, at the MMU Crewe campus this week.

The society formed in 2009 when it found that there was no extra-curricular group for students studying degrees other than drama.

They tend to specialises in plays written by students for students, but for a change have taken on one of Shakespeare’s classic works.

And for this production, the setting is in the city, down the back alleys, and in and amongst the rubbish – bringing the story into a the present day.

Director Charles Ingram said: “Our first show, Fear, was a massive hit within the university.

“We have worked hard to bring to life an interpretation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream like you have never seen before.”

The show will be performed in the Studio Theatre in the Department of Contemporary Arts of the Crewe Green Road campus.

Performances are at 7.30pm tonight (Wednesday), Friday and Sunday. Tickets are £3.50 for adults and £2 for concessions and full time students. To reserve tickets emailgenesismmu @hotmail. co.uk and then collect and pay on the door between 6.45-7.20pm.
