Soap and pop icon Jason Donovan stars in The Sound Of Music at Hanley’s Regent Theatre

AUSSIE TV and theatre star Jason Donovan is all set for a three-week run at the Regent Theatre in Hanley when he stars in The Sound Of Music.

The 42-year-old pop star, who shot to fame as Scott Robinson in Neighbours, takes the lead role of Captain Von Trapp in the touring production of the West End hit.

His West End theatre credits include Priscilla Queen Of The Desert, the title role in Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Caractacus Potts in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

His pop career was relaunched following his place in the final of 2007’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!.

Starring opposite him is former Emmerdale actress Verity Rushworth.

The legendary Rodgers and Hammerstein musical tells the story of the Von Trapp family’s flight across the mountains in Nazi-occupied Austria.

It features some of the most memorable songs performed on the musical stage including Edelweisse, My Favourite Things, Do-Re-Mi, The Lonely Goatherd and The Sound Of Music.

The show runs from Tuesday until March 5.
