THIS week sees the first new production of 2011 at the New Vic Theatre in Newcastle-under-Lyme with comedy play Bus Stop.
The show, written by William Inge, was a major Broadway hit and a classic of 1950s America. It was also the warm-hearted, moving and iconic film starring Marilyn Monroe.
The New Vic production is directed by James Dacre, and tells the story of nightclub singer Cherie, who is surprised to find herself on the Greyhound bus with rodeo-rider Bo.
When a snowstorm blocks the highway 40 miles west of Kansas City, they find themselves spending the night in a roadside diner. And what a difference a night makes.
Theatre spokeswoman Clare Hargreaves said: “As Bo charges in like a love-struck young bull, maybe he’s not the only one looking for love in all the wrong places. It seems like the other passengers are getting a mite friendly too.
“In the morning, when the snow clears, the bus will pull out. But who will be on it?”
Bus Stop begins a three-week run at from Friday until Saturday, February 19.
Tickets are £9.50-£18.50, to book phone 01782 717962 or visit www.newvictheatre.org.uk.
