Bleached Wail make a surprise return to kick-start 2011 at The Box in Crewe on Friday.
Despite officially calling it a day last summer, the highly rated three-piece are back for one night only.
It’s a chance to say goodbye to one of the best bands to emerge out of the local circuit in recent years.
Guitarist Adam Flood, frontman and guitarist Gus Isherwood and drummer Nick Hulme produced something special.
The Alsager band’s huge potential was blatant since impressing while on tour with Cage The Elephant.
The US outfit actually supported Wail before making it on to the Radio 1 playlists and promptly returned the favour.
Won over by their dynamic performances, intelligent song writing and outstanding musicianship, Bleached quickly became a regular feature on CTE’s UK dates.
With anthems such as Stolen Thunder and Over Here, the band’s avid army of fans must be at a loss as to why they weren’t signed up to a major deal years ago.
“The Box gig is a one-off,” said Floody. “This is the first time we’re doing it since we finished and we’ve not practised for a few months so we’ll see how it goes.
“Gus is at uni in London, I’m looking to move away next year to study and Nick is looking to work abroad. So I guess we are going our separate ways.
“We’re all good friends and you never know what is going to happen. We might end up playing in new bands, we might end up in the same band somewhere but it would probably have a different slant on it.”
Having started out playing ‘Primal Nights’ at The M Club, Bleached were dominant in a new wave of bands to gain wider recognition in South Cheshire via Crewe Live ’08.
Alongside stamping their authority on The Sugarmill and venues across the country, the trio also made The Box their own with a series of event gigs.
On one memorable night, Bleached blew away Volume Festival headliners Ipso Facto with a barnstorming support set.
“That was a really good gig, that whole Volume day,” said Floody. “There’s a line between being humble and cocky but I think we were good on our day.”
New bands on the scene have spoken about being inspired by Wail. It’s big testimony to all they did in a short space of time.
“I’m happy with what we achieved,” added Floody.
“We didn’t get big but we did a lot of cool things that other bands don’t get to do.
“And if you’re saying we inspired any other band, that’s really something.”
Support comes from Zap Zap Zap!, Faux Feet and new Crewe outfit Dimension.
Doors open at 7.30pm and admission is £5.
