Aladdin at Crewe’s Lyceum Theatre ticks all the boxes for panto magic

WHO needs big names to carry a show?

Imagine Theatre is proving you can chuck all the money you like at seat-selling stars, but it’s far better spent on a fine production and making sure your cast know their stuff.

Last year’s show-stealer Leon Craig is back in perhaps the most famous panto role of all, Widow Twankey, and blokes beware – he’s taking no prisoners!

Backing him up as Aladdin’s dopey brother Wishee Washee is the unknown Craig Hollinsworth – who proves instantly likeable for both young and old.

Tachia Newall displays outstanding ability in an all-singing, all-dancing rollercoaster of a role as the Genie of the Lamp.

And Jamie-Lee Mason and Katie Sheridan – as Aladdin and the Princess – certainly don’t let the side down.

The set-pieces are great, and the staging spectacular, epitomised by a chilling dragon-mouthed cave and an adorable elephant walking on stage.

The show benefits enormously from not having a weak link, making it a must-see for families in South Cheshire.

Aladdin runs until January 2, 2011. Tickets are priced £10-£17.50. For more details or to book, phone 01270 537333 or visit www.lyceumtheatre.net
