GADJO Jazz, one of the country’s favourite Gypsy jazz groups, provide the music at Llay Royal British Legion, Wrexham, on Tuesday, November 23.
Formed 16 years ago in Django Reinhardt’s home village of Samois-sur- Seine by Chris Hayward and Andy Mackenzie, the band mixes the music of Reinhardt and Grappelli ‘Hot Club’ with native Celtic influences to guarantee a diverse and entertaining show.
Hayward abandoned his classical training and orchestral playing for jazz many years ago.
He has since become one of the UK’s top jazz fiddle players, with a mastery of the Celtic fiddle gained from frequent performances in Ireland, which is adding a new dimension to Gadjo’s music.
Mackenzie is a leading jazz guitarist with many international festivals, CDs and DVDs to his name.
He has recorded with American guitarists Frank Vignola, Jimmy Bruno and John Jorgenson, among many others.
Admission to Tuesday’s gig is £6, concessions £5. Telephone 01745 812260 or visit www.northwalesjazz.org.uk.
