Time Travel at Halton Castle and Norton Priory

NORTON Priory Museum and Halton Castle are offering families the chance to travel through time and discover the history of Halton as part of National Heritage week.

The doors of Halton Castle will open on Sunday from 1-4pm and visitors will be able to explore the castle’s long history from its beginnings as a Norman fortress.

The castle’s history has many stories to tell, with Civil War sieges, prisoners being locked up, sunken gardens, games on the bowling green and its use as an observation post during WWII.

There will be plenty to do for all the family, including free entrance to Norton Priory Museum and Gardens, tours of Halton Castle, including a walk through Halton Village back to Norton Priory, birds of prey flying high, Civil War living history camp, dressing up and family craft activities to try out.

Families and younger visitors can pick up a ‘Time Traveller Passport’, collecting all the stamps as you experience each part of Halton Castle’s story.

From the castle’s elevated position views across the shires of Lancashire, Cheshire, Flintshire, Derbyshire and Yorkshire can be admired.

A little something for everyone, young and old – capture the imagination and get up close to the past.

Norton Priory is open from 10 am-5pm.

There are picnic tables at the museum and woodlands for guests to bring their own lunch.
