Poetry evening at Alexander’s in Chester
POETRY and music will be celebrated at Alexander’s on Sunday with The Shared Poems of Onya Wick.
The idea started on email and the three members, Kemal Houghton, Maureen Weldon and Mike Penny interact with one another as soon as they step on stage.
Mike said: “I thought: ‘What if I conjure up inspiration and start writing the first line(s) of a new poem with the objective of passing those few lines on to either Kemal or Maureen. Would they be able to continue writing it, adding the next part, line or stanza and keeping to the chosen theme?’”
The first subject they wrote about was the muse and the first poem The Muse is Life eventually led to a substantial repertoire.
Songwriter Kemal and Mike have both been published by the Chester Poets.
Maureen is Irish, living in North Wales. A former professional ballet dancer and ballet teacher, she has written poetry since the mid 1980s.
Her poems are widely published and she is a member of The Society of Women Writers and Journalists.
Onya Wick is at Alexander’s on Sunday July 25 at 8pm. Tickets £3 on the door.
