Richard Thompson and Diana Jones among stars picked by whispering Bob Harris for his Liverpool Summer Pops shows

A WEEKEND of shows set up by BBC Radio 2’s Bob Harris as part of the Liverpool’s Summer Pops takes place at venues across the city from July 15-18.

Whispering Bob, as he is famously known, has been at the centre of the British music industry for nearly 40 years and is noted particularly for his work on legendary TV show The Old Grey Whistle Test.

He has been directly involved in the programming of the four-day event which will be opened by The Fabulous Thunderbirds at the O2 Academy tonight (Thursday). Š

The quintessential American rock band have been recording and performing for more than 30 years.

The jewel in the crown of the weekend is a three-act show at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on Friday, headlined by Richard Thompson with support from Diana Jones, Trevor Moss and Hannah-Lou.

On Saturday, at The Stanley Theatre, Harris presents a triple bill of female Americana artists, Eve Selis, Elizabeth Cook and Piney Gir.

The series will come to a spectacular close on Sunday, with folk-pop band Tunng at the Stanley Theatre.Š
