CHESTER singers have commissioned a new piece of work to support young singers, thanks to a grant from the BBC.
Chester Bach Singers’ Bells!, composed by musical director Martin Bussey, was made possible through the BBC Performing Arts Fund under the Choral Ambition Scheme.
The piece will be performed at a concert in June, bringing together a number of local organisations and focusing on young performers in the community. The line-up includes young soloists soprano Jeanie Larkin and tenor Jonathan Cooke, St David’s High School Choir, Waverton Handbell Ringers and a string quartet of former pupils from Chetham’s School of Music.
The concert is on Saturday June 12 at 7:30pm in St John’s Church. There will also be a second performance of Bells! at the Ribchester Music Festival on Saturday June 26.
CBS encourages youngsters to join the choir through a Young Singer scheme open to people aged 15-22.
Details about the scheme can be found at www.chesterbachsingers.org.uk.
