LEE Mead, who won the heart of the nation as the winner of the hit BBC show Any Dream Will Do, makes his drama debut in Bill Kenwright’s production of Oscar Wilde’s classic comedy Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime, at Manchester’s Palace Theatre until Saturday.
Lee was ‘the people’s’ Joseph’ in the West End musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, playing to packed houses and critical acclaim from 2007 until early 2009. He also released his debut solo album, which sold almost 200,000 copies.
Lord Arthur Savile is a pillar of Victorian society on the verge of marriage to the lovely Sybil Merton, when a brief departure from late 19th century convention leads him to an encounter with a chilling clairvoyance called Podgers.
Podgers secretly reveals that at some point in Arthur’s life, he is destined to commit murder.
Lee joins an all-star cast including entertainer Gary Wilmot who returns to the Palace Theatre after a successful stay last autumn in Chicago.
