THE Chester Music Society Choir teams up with the Liverpool Sinfonia for a spectacular concert at Chester Cathedral this weekend.
The society will present a performance of Dvorak’s Stabat Mater on Saturday, March 13 at 7.30pm.
Best-known for his symphony From the New World, Dvorak is renowned for the melodious nature of his music, and his Stabat Mater is no exception.
The poem Stabat Mater has been set to music by many composers over the centuries, but Dvorak’s is one of the most beautiful and moving ever composed.
The soaring, uplifting melodies and glorious orchestration throughout the piece fully express the emotions of Mary as she witnesses her Son on the cross.
The choir and Liverpool Sinfonia, under the baton of Graham Jordan Ellis, are joined by four soloists of international renown to provide an experience of inspired sacred choral music at its best.
Tickets are available from Chester Tourist Information on 0845 241 7868 or at the Cathedral door on Saturday.
