RAUCOUS Welsh rockers Stereophonics are riding on the wave of their seventh hit album and will play a sell-out show at Manchester’s MEN Arena on Sunday.
Despite receiving mixed reviews from music critics, Keep Calm & Carry On has further cemented the band’s reputation as a UK music heavyweight.
“We needed to up the bar a bit,” said lead singer Kelly Jones. “Otherwise it was going to fritter away like it has done for a lot of the bands that were around at the same time as us. And I think we’re better than that.”
The stripped-back 12- track collection moves away from the walls of guitars used in recent albums, allowing Jones’s instantly recognisable rasping vocals to come through even more, backed up by Javier Weyler’s intense drumming, Adam Zindani’s cascading guitar lines and Richard Jones’s driving bass.
Tickets for the band’s 2010 UK tour are selling out fast, with the Manchester venue already an all-ticket event.
