THE world-famous Moscow State Circus comes to the Regent Theatre in Hanley this week.
The critically acclaimed acts push the boundary of human physical ingenuity to its limits. The show is usually performed in the round, under canvas, but for the next few weeks it’s re-written for the stage.
The show, Legenda, focuses around the life of ‘mad monk’ Rasputin, who was often described as a romantic, mystic visionary.
His vivid dreams form the theme of the show, entwined with the pride of Russia’s magnificent circus artistes and special effects.
The newly devised line-up includes the Didyk, a double Russian swing troupe acrobatically catapulting themselves high across the stage.
Doctorov’s Unbelievable Human Statues is a breathtaking balancing act that defies gravity, while the Kvlividze Troupe appears on the rotating Wheel of Death.
The show also includes body twisting contortionists along with award-winning clowns Valik and Valerik, who have perfected the art of Buster Keaton-style capers, plus amazing acrobats.
Theatre spokesman Dave Bradbury says: “There’s something for all the family so escape to the magical world of the circus and be wowed by the jugglers, dazzled by the trapeze artists and amazed by the acrobats.”
Shows start at 7.30pm from Thursday to Saturday, 2.30pm on Saturday and 2pm and 5pm on Sunday. Tickets are £9-£26, to book phone 087 871 7649.
