Scottish folk duo Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham head to The Brindley in Runcorn

TWO of Scotland’s best loved traditional musicians will be in Runcorn when Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham come to The Brindley next month.

Aly was a founder member of the Boys of the Lough and his passionate playing has found its way onto recordings by the likes of Eddie Reader and Richard Thompson.

Accordion-player Phil has been named as one of Scotland’s 25 most influential people.

Currently featuring on Mark Knopfler’s latest album he has also worked with the likes of James Taylor, Rosanne Cash and Midge Ure.

Both can be seen regularly in The Transatlantic Sessions TV series and in February 2005 they won the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards best duo gong.

Phil said: “We started playing music together after having great fun recording one of Aly’s early TV shows.

“Public response to these sessions was such that we decided to tour together and so our partnership was born.

“The annual tour has grown and has become something of an institution.”

They come to the award-winning Halton venue on Tuesday, March 16, at 8pm.

Tickets priced at £14 and £12 concessions are available from The Brindley box office on 0151 907 8360 or at www.thebrindley.org.uk
