Detroit Social Club come calling at The Box in Crewe

GUITAR rock high flyers Detroit Social Club head for The Box in Pedley Street, Crewe, on Friday.

To say things have happened ridiculously quickly for Newcastle sextet Detroit Social Club is an understatement.

They might recently have been hailed by Kasabian’s Tom Meighan as the new saviours of British guitar music, but it was actually well over a year ago that David Burn started writing songs alone in his studio room and set tongues wagging hastily in his native North East.

It was never Burn’s intention to bring them to a wider audience.

But when early, self-produced demos Sunshine People and Rivers and Rainbows were posted to a mysterious, faceless Myspace page, people began bandying around adjectives like “genius” and “prophet”.

But there was no band then, and the material was crying out for it to be played live.

So Detroit Social Club became a band, their titanic live show came together quickly as they all knew each from many shared years on the Newcastle gigging scene.

Support comes from Crewe heavyweights Sumo Kings, The Rivalry and The Way.

Doors open at 8pm and tickets are £5, available on the door or in advance from www.theboxcrewe.co.uk
