Justin Adams and Juldeh Camara to perform at the Brindley, Runcorn

TWO innovative pioneers of global music are taking to the Brindley’s stage later this month.

Justin Adams and Juldeh Camara fuse punk with the trance-style rhythms of Gambia.

Camara plays a single string violin know as a riti, which sounds like a blues harp one minute and a Celtic fiddle the next.

Adams, the son of a diplomat, together with Jah Wobble, formed The Invaders of the Heart and went on to create a legacy that spawned a multitude of reinventions – from Robert Plant to Natacha Atlas.

Justin Adams is regarded one of today’s most creative guitarists and composers.

He has an unmatched knowledge of both blues and African styles which he has developed over 20 years.

He co-wrote the Robert Plant album Mighty Rearranger and he is also a renowned producer. His work with Saharan desert blues sensations Tinariwen, whose first and third albums he produced, Robert Plant's Strange Sensations band, and collaborations with Brian Eno, Jah Wobble, Lo'Jo , as well as musicians from African, Arabic and Irish traditions have created his unique style.

A Brindley spokesman said: “Their songs echo the raw exuberance of The Clash, the rolling blues of Muddy Waters and the delicacy and grandeur of the ancient Griot ballads.”

The show is at 8pm on Thursday, February 25. Tickets are £15 or £13.
