Vavoom play The Jolly Tar in Wardle

HIGH-oCTANE rock ’n’ rollers Vavoom! make a return to the Jolly Tar in Wardle, near Nantwich, on Friday.

The Nantwich three-piece have built up a following during the past 10 years and have become known for delivering a fast-paced set of tunes spanning several decades.

Their style could be described as having a rock ’n’ roll core peppered with swing and jazz.

They promise a high-octane set of rockabilly tunes inspired by The Stray Cats, early Elvis and the Brian Setzer Orchestra.

A highlight for the outfit was being asked by Sir Bob Geldof to support his band at the Nantwich Jazz, Blues and Music Festival in 2002.

The band was formed by guitarist Andy Boote aka Booty.

Vince ‘The Viper’ Whitmore was added as drummer, and the final recruit was Chris Large, Peter Wilson auctioneer by day and double-slap bassist by night.

Together they deliver sets of hot rod rock ’n’ roll on demonic drums, banging double bass and growling Gretsch guitar.

Vavoom! play the Jolly Tar, Wardle, on Friday from 9.30pm. Admission is free.
