Warrington based Centenary brings the Diary of Anne Frank to the Brindley, High Street, Runcorn Old Town

MULTI-AWARD-WINNING drama group Centenary is bringing the educational play The Diary Of Anne Frank to the Brindley for one week from February 9.

Centenary is a drama club based in Warrington and its members have been performing for more than 108 years.

The company performs two musicals and two plays each year and regulary holds concerts for charities and good causes.

The story centres around the true story of Anne Frank, who, at the age of 13, wrote about the events that took place during the Holocaust.

Anne and her family went into hiding in Amsterdam in 1942 to escape from the Nazi persecution of the Jews.

She later died of typhus in a German concentration camp.

The play marks the recent death of Miep Gies, the last surviving member of the family who hid Anne and her relatives in their home.

Mrs Gies and other employees of Anne’s father, Otto, helped to supply food for the family while they were in hiding.

After the family were discovered Mrs Gies found the diary and protected it.

She later travelled around the globe taking about Anne’s experiences.

Matinee tickets cost £13 and £11 for concessions. Evening tickets are £14 and £12 for concessions.
