MONTHS of rehearsals come to fruition tonight (Wednesday) at the Lyceum Theatre in Crewe, where King’s Grove High School presents its musical production of Sweeney Todd.
The musical thriller tells the story of a 19th century barber who goes on the rampage against all and sundry, with bodies ending up in the meat grinder.
It was recently given worldwide attention thanks to Tim Burton’s 2007 film starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter.
The show has been put together by teachers Craig Morgan and Jane O’Brien and features a cast of about 50 pupils.
Judith Wiltshire, spokeswoman for the Buchan Grove school, said: “This is the toughest challenge the pupils have undertaken at King’s Grove school due the wonderful, but difficult score.
“However, they are relishing the opportunity to perform it.”
The production is – rather appropriately – sponsored by local firm Wright’s Pies, which has enabled the show to be raised a level with set and props provided from a professional theatre company.
Songs to be performed include The Ballad of Sweeney Todd, The Worst Pies in London, Johanna, Pirelli’s Miracle Elixir and That’s Good!.
The performance starts at 7.30pm tonight, tomorrow and on Friday.
Tickets are £3. To book, call 01270 537333 or visit www.lyceumtheatre. net.
