Neil Simon comedy kicks off final season at Library Theatre venue in Manchester

THE first in-house production of the final season at the Library Theatre’s present home in Manchester will be Neil Simon’s comedy I Ought To Be In Pictures.

This touching and poignant comedy, which will be directed by Paul Jepson, making his Library Theatre debut, runs from February 11-27.

Libby Tucker, a bright-eyed 19-year-old would-be actress from New York, has dreams of making it big in Hollywood.

She travels across the country and turns up unannounced on the doorstep of her father, Herb, a three-times married down-on-his-luck screenwriter living in Los Angeles, who last saw his daughter when she was a little baby.

Herb’s scripts are being rejected by one Hollywood studio after another, while his long-suffering girlfriend, Steffy, bears the brunt of his repeated rejections.

However, Libby’s unexpected re-appearance forces Herb to reappraise his life.

This funny comedy, set in 1979, is full of Neil Simon’s typically smart and witty one-liners, and will make for a highly entertaining start to the Library Theatre’s final season in its present home.
