THE work of American writer and director Neil LaBute is showcased with a triple bill of his short plays at Clwyd Theatr Cymru in Mold next week.
The trilogy combines the British premiere of his latest piece The Furies, with Dialogue’s critically acclaimed sell-out hit at The Bush Theatre – Helter Skelter/Land of the Dead.
LaBute charts the trajectories of three different couples responding to sudden, drastic changes in their lives.
In Helter Skelter, a husband and wife meet in a chic restaurant in New York City to take a break from Christmas shopping. He doesn’t know that she has already seen him today.
In Land of the Dead, also set in New York, a different couple part. He goes to the office, she visits a clinic.
In The Furies, two lovers meet to talk about ending their relationship – not easy with a surprise guest. As events unfold, it becomes clear that this is not a day these three couples will forget.
LaBute’s recent hits include Fat Pig, Some Girls (West End), This is How it Goes (Donmar) and In a Dark Dark House (Almeida).
The Neil LaBute Trilogy can be seen in the Emlyn Williams Theatre from January 26-27. Visit www.clwyd-theatr-cymru.co.uk or ring 0845 330 3565. It can also be seen at Unity Theatre in Liverpool, on February 2 and 3. Call 0844 873 2888.
