Flautist Laura Lucas is first Chester Music Society Celebrity Concert guest of 2010

CHESTER Music Society kicks off 2010 with the latest in its series of celebrity concerts.

Guest of honour for the first concert of the year is talented young flautist, Laura Lucas, who was a student at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester, where she studied flute with Rachel Holt and was principal flute of The National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain for two years.

She was the youngest winner of the Shell/LSO Scholarship in 2001, and in 2002 she reached the national woodwind finals of the BBC Young Musician.

She will be accompanied by pianist Dominic John, who is a member of various chamber ensembles and accompanist to a wide variety of singers and instrumentalists.

Performances in this country have included venues such as St Martin-in-the-Fields while overseas he has played in France, The Hague, Poland, America, Korea and Japan.

Together they will perform works by Eldin Burton, Poulenc, Franck, Richard Rodney Bennett and Schubert.

The concert takes place in St Mary’s Centre on Wednesday, January 13 at 7.30pm. Tickets £12, reductions £9. Ring 0151 339 7326.
