CHESHIRE will celebrate 60 years of Narnia when the Harlequin Theatre in Northwich stages The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe from December 9-12.
Richard Ellis, artistic director of Winsford’s award-winning youth theatre group, The Really Short Theatre Company, will direct an innovative and modern vision of this classic story.
He is using the adaptation of CS Lewis’ classic novel made by Adrian Mitchell for the RSC, which brought rave reviews and broke box office records when it opened in November 1998.
It closely follows the book, with its story of the four Pevensie children, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy, who are evacuated from wartime London, and then stumble across an attic wardrobe which transports them to the magical frozen world of Narnia, ruled over by the wicked White Witch.
Richard is keen to show how the conflicts in Narnia between good and evil mirror the conflict of the Second World War that the children have escaped from.
Tickets are priced £6 (full- time students £5). Ring the box office on 01606 353534 for details.
