Folk singer Karine Polwart comes to The Brindley

THERE is a treat for lovers of the acoustic singer-songwriter genre when award-winning Scottish songwriter, Karine Polwart comes to The Brindley in Runcorn on Thursday, November 26.

Karine, who was nominated in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2009 for Singer of the Year and for Best Album, combines the economy of the folk storytelling tradition with a probing intellect and compassionate lyricism.

Twice winner of Best Original Song at the BBC Folk Awards, she said she continues to wonder at the homes her many poignant songs find for themselves. “The most beautiful things about songs is how they can take on a life of their own and assume all kinds of really particular meanings for different folk,” she said.

A former children’s rights worker, and driven by a strong sense of social justice, Karine’s breakthrough was her debut album, Faultlines and its more lush and polished 2006 successor Scribbled in Chalk.

Tickets are £14 and £10 from 0151 907 8360 or www.thebrindley.org.uk.
