Don Weller is North Wales Jazz Society’s latest attraction

ONE of the best known and well-loved figures on the UK scene, Don Weller, performs in one of North Wales’s most prestigious jazz events this autumn.

He will be holding a concert at the Royal British Legion in Llay, Wrexham on Tuesday, November 17.

Weller is a largely self-taught tenor saxophonist and composer, who chose clarinet and classical music as his first venture into the world of reeds and became something of a child star with a performance of Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in the Fairfield Hall, Croydon at the age of 14.

He swiftly moved into jazz circles, however, and after lessons from Kathy Stobart became a leading player in the heavily jazz flavoured bands of Alan Price and Jack Bruce.

The music starts at 8.30pm and admission is £8, concessions £7. Advance booking is available on 01745 812260. For his North Wales concert, Don is joined by a quartet led by Wales’s premier guitarist Trefor Owen, which features keyboards, double bass and drums.
