AS Hallowe’en creeps ever nearer, Northwich’s award-winning Harlequin Players are putting the finishing touches to a bloodcurdling tale of mass murder.
A dramatic, darkly funny adaption of the story of demonic barber Sweeney Todd will burst on to the Queen Street stage for four nights in late October.
“There will, of course, be the famous barber’s chair, and the production will finally lay to rest the question of what turned Sweeney into a mass murderer,” said theatre spokeswoman Caroline Young. “The squeamish should not attend!”
A strong cast including some familiar faces has been assembled by director Chris Finney to bring this scandalous tale of love, vengeance and questionable baked goods.
Harlequin connoisseurs will recognise Don Hirst (Dad’s Army, Art) as the eponymous cut-throat, hell-bent on revenge after the loss of all he held dear, and Barbara Jemmett (Kindertransport, Abigail’s Party) stars as Mrs Lovett, the purveyor of the worst pies in London!
Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street runs at the Harlequin Theatre, Queen Street, Northwich from Wednesday-Saturday, October 21-24. Performances start at 7.45pm each night.
Tickets, priced £6 and £5 for full-time students, are available from the box office on 01606 353534, or Northwich Information Centre (Mon-Fri 9am-4pm, Sat 10am-12noon).
