THE Kingsley Players are back on stage again this month with an hilarious adaptation of one of the most popular comedies in world theatre, The Government Inspector.
Gogol’s enduring satirical masterpiece is set in a small, Russian town where corruption is rife and the mayor and his cronies have got it made.
But when they learn they are going to be subject to an undercover government inspection, they panic and swiftly fall victim to their own stupidity and greed.
This fast, funny and bitingly relevant tale is brought to life again in a new translation by comedy writer and political satirist Alistair Beaton (Drop the Dead Donkey).
Director, Lynn Pegler said: “Given the recent controversy over MPs’ expenses, this timeless tale about political greed and corruption certainly strikes a familiar chord.”
The Government Inspector runs at Kingsley Community Centre for four nights from Wednesday October 14 to Saturday October 17, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets, priced £5 and £6, are available by calling 07925 516760 or at www.kingsleyplayers.co.uk.
