THE Kingsley Players are back on stage again this month with an hilarious adaptation of one of the most popular comedies in world theatre, The Government Inspector.
Gogol’s enduring satirical masterpiece is set in a small Russian town where corruption is rife and the mayor and his cronies have got it made.
But when they learn they are going to be subject to an undercover government inspection, they panic and swiftly fall victim to their own stupidity and greed.
This fast, funny and bitingly relevant tale is brought to life again in a new translation by comedy writer and political satirist Alistair Beaton (Drop the Dead Donkey).
Cast member Tanya-Marie Leyshon said: “The Government Inspector by Nikolai Gogol is one of the most famous Russian plays and has been cited as one of the funniest.
“I play Marya, the well-to-do daughter of the very corrupt mayor of a very corrupt little town. She’s naive, self obsessed, vain and extremely funny.”
The Government Inspector runs at Kingsley Community Centre for four nights from Wednesday to Saturday, October 14-17, starting at 7.30pm.
Tickets, priced £5 and £6, are available from Holland Pharmacy in Kingsley or by calling 07925 516760. Alternatively, book online at www.kingsleyplayers.co.uk
