THE Answering Machine are headlining at The Box, Pedley Street, Crewe, on Saturday on the back of a stint as tour support for the Manic Street Preachers.
Led by Wybunbury-born Martin Colclough, they started life a few years ago to a wave of giddy industry adulation and Press accolades. They were a starry-eyed trio with a clutch of bedroom-recorded, drum machine- backed indie-pop nuggets.
Snapped to singles deals and for publishing, the trio began trading on their raucous youthful exuberance and innocent good looks.
Then, diving undercover as the band’s buzz reached fever pitch, The Answering Machine spent a period in hiding, prolifically pre-producing and penning several dozen new songs.
By the end of 2008 they had locked themselves up in a remote North Yorkshire studio, with Manics and Idlewild producer Dave Eringa at the helm, to record their first album.
Now they are able to deliver their devastating pop tales on their debut LP Another City, Another Sorry.
Support is from Crewe three-piece The Retrospective and Anais Labelle.
Doors open at 8pm and tickets are £6. For further details, visit www. theboxcrewe.co.uk.
