Country singer Charlie Landsborough will kick off his UK tour in Llandudno

Country singer Charlie Landsborough is reputedly one of the nicest men in the business, and after speaking to him, I can confirm it’s true.

Charlie, born in Wrexham but brought up in Birkenhead, found success relatively late in life, getting his big break as he calls it, at 53, when his song What Colour is the Wind, went to number one in Ireland.

Now 67, he tours the UK and Ireland twice a year, as well as making regular trips to Australia, where he also has a large fan base.

He has sold millions of albums, won numerous awards and also performs at sell-out concerts for thousands of fans.

“There were loads of times when I felt I was getting older and thought I would never get anywhere,” said Charlie.

“I was in the Army, worked on the railway, sang in pubs and was a primary teacher for 20 years – you name it, I’ve done it.

“The music business is full of youth and good looks, neither of which I had, so it’s miraculous I am where I am today, it’s like a fairy story.

“I love touring, it’s a real joy. My wife and best friend come with me and we have a great time.

“I usually sing a mixture of old and new songs and tell a few jokes and stories in between.

“People tell me they like the stories. I think stories help people get more of a flavour of who you are and what you’re about.

“When I talk they see someone just like themselves.”

Charlie will celebrate his 68th birthday while on the road, but says he’s not ready to stop yet.

“While I’ve still got the fans and think I do the music justice, I’ll keep going,” he said.

“If I start making an embarrassment of myself, I’ll stop, but hopefully it won’t be for a few years yet.”

Charlie and his five-piece band kick off their 23 UK date tour on October 9 at Llandudno, completing it on November 8 at the Liverpool Philharmonic. Charlie has also released a new album called Nothing Lasts Forever.
