THE ultimate 1960s musical returns to the New Vic Theatre next week for an amazing 10th anniversary in Carry On Uncle Eric.
The Uncle Eric phenomenon celebrates a decade of comedy, having started in 1999 as a one-night-only event.
Uncle Eric’s visit to the Newcastle-under-Lyme theatre in the round has become a North Staffordshire tradition, with the unique brand of nostalgia, 60s music and side-splitting comedy attracting record breaking audiences.
When Eric goes to the cinema to see Carry On Camping, he finds himself inspired by taking a holiday at a nudist camp.
He’s soon made a booking at the Paradise Camp Site but, when Madge finds out and tags along, all his beautiful plans start to go wrong.
Actor and scriptwriter David Graham is the brains behind Uncle Eric.
He says: “When I first brought Eric here, he was on tour, but since then Newcastle has become somewhere really special for him with a new script written each time he comes back, especially for the New Vic.
“We try every time to make things a little bit different while sticking to 1960s themes. So in 10 years we’ve covered everything from man landing on the moon to hippie pop festivals!”
The show runs from Tuesday until Saturday, August 29. Shows start at 7.30pm and tickets are £8.50-£17.50. Phone the box office on 01782 717962 or visit www.newvictheatre.org.uk.
