Shakespeare’s Scottish Play Macbeth to be performed by Say Two Productions in grounds of St John’s Church in Chester

Murder, mayhem and mystery will fill the eerie grounds of St John’s Church next month, as an outdoor performance of Macbeth comes to Chester.

Say Two Productions promise to bring yet another stunning display of outdoor Shakespeare when they bring the Scottish Play to the city on August 8.

After a successful run of performing Midsummer Night’s Dream this summer, the company will tread the boards at St John’s to tell the tale of Macbeth’s dark desires, brought out by the witches, to take over the crown of Scotland.

Shakespeare outdoors is a hugely popular genre of theatre, bringing the public face-to-face with the works of the world’s favourite playwright and Macbeth is no different with flashing swords and a high-energy performance to thrill an expected large audience.

A Say Two spokeswoman said: “Say Two’s theatre productions are always highly energetic and exciting while remaining true to the playwright’s text and language, incorporating traditional costume and weaponry.

“Each performance is preceded with a pre-show director’s talk.

“The audience can tread the boards, wear the costumes, have a go with the swords, and deliver those famous lines.

“Each venue has covered shelter, so come rain or shine an excellent evening is guaranteed for all the family.”

Say Two Productions has enjoyed a busy 2009 having recently toured Italy, performing Grease. It is also believed to be the first company to take Shakespeare to the Bahamas.

But attention is now back on home ground in the North West as Macbeth takes top billing in Chester.

Members of the public are encouraged to bring seating and a picnic to the stunning grounds of St John’s before sitting back and watching one of the best shows ‘bard’ none from 6.45pm. The play begins at 7.30pm.
