Chester band The LP on tour after Whatfest success

An exciting band from Chester is emerging as one of the ones to watch in 2009, thanks to a string of crowd-pleasing festival performances and an album planned for possible release later this year in the UK and Japan.

The LP, who recently braved the muddy fields of Mid Cheshire’s indie music festival Whatfest, are also heading out on tour across high-profile venues in the North West in their bid to achieve every band’s dream – to be signed.

Having already recorded We Are But Now at Whitby Studios, Ellesmere Port, the five-piece electronic band could soon be LP by name and LP by nature.

Record bosses from Criminal Records and Japan-based Vinyl Junkie are currently in talks with the band’s manager, Martin Ellis, about a potential release, and as keyboard player Clare Elizabeth admits, it is everything they want.

“It’s definitely the dream,” she said. “Every one of us is in the band for the long haul. We really want to be signed up.”

As the only girl in the band, with Matty and Callum Adams (singer and drummer) and guitarists Simon Boyd and Paul McKay, completing the LP line-up, going on tour could be a daunting prospect for the 22-year-old.

“It’s OK really, obviously they smell a bit more,” she said. “But I live with three boys and I have been in bands with lads before so it’s not really an issue.

“We have all got our roles to play in the band and certainly our music is written with a lot of thought. Of course our frontman will get more attention on stage during a performance but musically we are all as important as each other.”

Next on the agenda for The LP are gigs at the O2 Academy in Liverpool (August 15) and The Roadhouse in Manchester (August 27).

Before that, Chester music fans will be able to sample the LP’s sound when they play an intimate gig at The Vintage Shop, on Watergate Street, in Chester on August 8 at 2pm.
