Whatfest 2009 confirms top headliners for Northwich festival

MID Cheshire is set to host a Britpop revival, with two of the most popular indie acts of the 90s signing up to play at Whatfest 2009.

Dodgy and The Bluetones have been confirmed as the headline acts for the three-day show at Riverside Organic Farm at Whatcroft starting on Friday, July 17.

The bands will join Liverpool’s China Crisis, and Rudheath favourites The Shallow Call at the festival, which will also showcase a host of talent from across the North West.

The Bluetones became stars of the Britpop scene, with their debut record Expecting to Fly reaching number one in the UK album charts in 1996, while Dodgy hit the big time with singles including Good Enough and Staying Out For The Summer.

Dodgy’s drummer, Mathew Priest, said: “We’re looking forward to playing at what we are sure will be a top weekend.

“It’s fantastic to be part of a new festival like Whatfest. There’s a great mix of local talent and established acts, and we’re happy to be involved.”

The Bluetones’ frontman Mark Morriss added: “We’re sure Whatfest is going to be a great event. There are some great acts signed up, and we are really looking forward to playing.”

Camping is available throughout the festival, which also boasts a feast of entertainment, hot food stalls, and fully licensed bars. Early booking discounts are now available – with tickets starting from £17 per day, or £39 for a weekend pass.
