ALESSANDRO Bianchi, organist at St Paul’s Basilica, Cantu, pays a return visit to Chester on Thursday, July 2 to give a celebrity organ recital in St Werburgh’s Church, Grosvenor Park Road, at 7.30pm.
His programme spans the centuries from Handel through to Cesar Franck, Max Drischner, Bonaventura Somma and four living composers.
Admission is £5 and includes a programme and refreshment.
He can also be heard playing a completely different programme in his lunchtime recital in Chester Cathedral at 1.10pm.
Alessandro Bianchi was born in Como and studied in Piacenza Conservatoire with Luigi Toja, where he was awarded organ and organ composition diplomas.
In addition to being organist of St Paul’s Basilica in Cantu and artistic director of the musical association Amici dell’Organo di Cantu, he is organist of the Anglican Church and of the Scuola Corale della Cattedrale in Lugano.
He has given masterclasses and lectures on Italian music in Italy, Germany, Spain, USA and Mexico and has undertaken several CD and radio/TV broadcasts and recordings.
