Gary Boyle & Nat Birchall Quartet at Llay Royal British Legion

POPULAR weekly jazz concerts at the Royal British Legion, Llay, Wrexham continue on Tuesday, with a performance by the sax/guitar led Nat Birchall/Gary Boyle Quartet.

Nat and Gary have been working together since their spell in the world music band Zaman in the late 1980s.

Nat, on tenor sax, has featured in a wide variety of musical situations and in the early 1990s formed the ground-breaking outfit Corner Crew.

Nat currently leads his own quintet, the Sixth Sense, whose CD of the same name is distributed by New Note, and his John Coltrane tribute sextet, Chasin’ the Trane.

Guitarist Gary, came to prominence in the late ’60s when he appeared extensively with singer Dusty Springfield and with such massively influential jazz musicians as Mike Gibbs, Mike Westbrook and Keith Tippett, before forming Isotope.

Gary won the Top New Star category in Melody Maker’s Readers’ Poll of 1974.
