TV star’s number is up in poignant play

THREE is a crowd in a futuristic play questioning human cloning.

Midsomer Murders star Daniel Casey, better known as Sergeant Troy, takes on a new challenge when he plays three identical sons, Bernard 1, Bernard 2 and Michael in A Number.

Coming to Manchester’s Library Theatre from Thursday, April 23-to-Saturday, May 8, the production raises questions on identity.

The play begins when Bernard (Casey) discovers he is not, as he thought, his father’s only son, but it is actually one of a number of genetically identical clones. As A Number progresses, Salter, the father – played by TV actor John Benfield – confronts his sons and a series of revelations about his past come to light.

Written by Caryl Churchill and directed by rising star Sarah Punshon, A Number will be shown from Monday to Saturdays at 8pm with matinees and showings on Saturday May 2 and May 9 at 3pm. Tickets cost £10 including matinees and £6 for Thursday, April 23.
