Tickets still available for Crewe Amateur Musicals Society’s Pirates of Penzance at Lyceum Theatre, Crewe

THE long-awaited production of Crewe Amateur Musicals Society’s The Pirates Of Penzance has begun at the Lyceum Theatre.

Tickets are still available for the show, which has been six months in the making since rehearsals began in October.

The result is the highly amusing tale of piracy and deception, with Northwich teacher Steve Turnbull and CAMS veteran Mike Bradley taking the central role of pirate’s apprentice Frederic.

The show has been adapted by Australian pop star Simon Gallagher to bring a modern edge to the classic Gilbert and Sullivan work.

Proceeds from the show will go back into CAMS funds, but some of the money made will be donated to Deafness Research UK, which aims to find cures and treatments for hearing problems.

Lyceum spokesman Dean Feasby said: “Gilbert & Sullivan has been brought into the 21st Century through modern orchestrations, tighter funnier scripts, a fabulous megamix finale and a unique female chorus in three-part harmony.

“With such famous tunes as I Am A Pirate King and (I Am The Very Model Of) A Modern Major General, The Pirates of Penzance will have theatregoers laughing heartily as they sing along with this delightfully rollicking tale.”

Pirates Of Penzance runs until Saturday. Shows start at 7.30pm with a 2.30pm matinee on the Saturday. Tickets are priced from £7-£10.50 – call 01270 537333 or visit www.lyceumtheate.net.
