Haunting tale of police brutality comes to Liverpool Everyman

THE haunting true story of one man’s optimism and ambition crushed as he became the victim of scandalous police brutality that shocked a nation comes to the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool next week.

On May 4, 1969, the body of David Oluwale was pulled from the River Aire. As police broke ranks to expose the two officers eventually prosecuted for involvement in his death, the horrific details emerged.

Oladipo Agboluaje’s sensitive adaptation from Kester Aspden’s critically acclaimed book brings David Oluwale to the Liverpool Everyman to tell his story, face to face with the Scotland Yard detective charged with investigating the case. Although Oluwale's story caused a national scandal at the time, it had been all but forgotten until the declassification of police files.

Now this timely, gripping play, based on the award winning book of the same name, unravels the mystery of Oluwale’s life and violent death.

Eclipse Theatre Initiative bring The Hounding of David Oluwale to the Everyman from March 3-7. Ring the box office on 0151 709 4776 or visit www.everymanplayhouse.com.
