AFTER four series of acclaimed concerts, the African Soul Rebels tour returns to the Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool with a true African spectacular, featuring three of the finest singers the continent has ever produced.
The African Soul Rebels tour has raised its game further for its return to the Phil. One act points the way to a new future in which African rhythms and rock unite; one is on a mission to explain his continent to the world; and the third provided the soundtrack to a civil war and a revolution.
Baaba Maal makes a long-awaited return, promising an acoustic set that will build on his acclaimed Missing You album.
The past 12 months have seen him become an integral part of the Africa Express concerts, where he and his musicians have been mixing their music with the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Damon Albarn and Jarvis Cocker.
Oliver Mtukudzi is the most popular and important artist at work in Zimbabwe, where he has been blending southern African styles with consummate ease for more than 30 years.
And Extra Golden, formed in Nairobi in 2004, shine through with their unique fusion involving a couple of Washington rockers and two Kenyan benga stars… one early fan of theirs being an Illinois senator called Barack Obama!
