IF YOU loved the thrilling story told in the hit documentary Touching The Void, there is a chance to meet one of the men at the heart of that drama who will talk about his life and experiences in a lecture show.
Internationally renowned mountaineer Simon Yates presents his lecture tour Beyond the Void which comes to the Pavilion Theatre in Rhyl on Wednesday, February 11 at 7.30pm.
In autumn 2007, Simon began his first UK tour with his lecture. Since then he has played at 51 venues throughout the UK, receiving a fantastic response from audiences up and down the country.
Simon Yates is one of the world’s most famous and accomplished mountaineers. He first became known as the man who cut the rope holding friend and climbing partner Joe Simpson during their first ascent of Peru’s Siula Grande in 1985.
Simpson’s harrowing account of their descent in his bestselling book and BAFTA award winning film, Touching the Void, made both men household names in the world’s climbing community and beyond.
Over the last 20 years, Simon has dedicated his life to climbing and has an international reputation as one of the most successful exploratory mountaineers in the world.
Based in the Lake District, Simon has an extensive climbing portfolio and has climbed in some of the most remote and rarely visited mountain ranges in the world.
He has made numerous first ascents in the Pakistani Karakoram, Tien Shan mountain range in Kazakhstan and the Peruvian Andes and has recently returned from completing a first ascent of Monte Lorana in Chilean Tierra del Fuego.
