THE prospect of a massive jobs boost for Widnes has been scuppered after transport giant Stobart Group opted to retain its Carlisle HQ.
The Weekly News revealed in April last year how Stobart had grown frustrated with restrictions placed on its proposals to expand Carlisle Airport.
The company said it was reconsidering its future in Carlisle and would move its HQ to Widnes if the matter could not be resolved.
However, Carlisle City Council approved a revised version of the plans.
