Club night’s banana skin for fresh faces

THE long-running Rawhide Raw comedy showcase returns to its spiritual home at the Royal Court in Liverpool on January 21.

Each event begins with two established acts followed by six newcomers who have five minutes to keep the audience entertained.

However, if their acts are not up to scratch, the offending comic will be pulled from the stage by the grim reaper himself.

The well established brand has been a showcase for acts desperate to break into comedy for years, and show organiser Sam Avery says that although the standard of humour varies, the shows are never dull.

He said: “Raw is a little bit more like stand-up used to be – a bit more daring. A lot of it is good and a lot of it doesn’t work, but it’s all about trying something out.”

Rawhide Raw starts on January 21 at the Royal Court, and then every other Wednesday. Doors open at 7.30pm and tickets are £3 on the door.
